eJournals
Response Options
The goal of the eJournal is for you, the student, to have the opportunity to reflect on the readings in class. A response is a written entry that includes your thoughts, reactions, interpretations, and questions about what you are reading. The eJournals are designed to promote a progression of written skills throughout the school year. The following generic topics are suggested options for your eJournal entries:
The following are just different options and may be considered at any time:
Experience/Memory: How does the literature make you feel? Does the literature remind you of anything? Describe your experiences and what made you think of them.
The Quote: Select a quote from what you have been reading and tell why you liked it. Is it essential to the plot, themes, or imagery in the story?
Questions: What questions do you have about what you are reading? What confuses you? What don't you understand? If you are going to pose a question(s), you must try to answer it in your entry.
Evaluation: How does this piece of literature compare to other pieces of literature that you have read? How does this literature relate the essential questions of the course?
Your eJournal responses should be unique to your voice, or personal style. Each entry must be DATED and TITLED.
More suggestions that are encouraged for e-journal responses:
Write a letter to a character/author. Write a poem in response to the literature.
Write an Internal Monologue from a minor or major character’s point of view.
Rewrite a portion of the story from a minor character’s point of view.
Write a literary review of, or recommend to others, what you have finished reading.
Rewrite the ending. Write/Change the story in play form.
Extend the story as a sequel. Create a visual response – artwork. (must include written explanation)
Write a prequel to the story Describe the important symbols/themes
Write a journal entry in a character's voice. Write an essay on major theme.
Create a dialogue between two characters. Write a short biography of a character.
Create a gravestone and write eulogy for a character.
Students are encouraged to try many of the various response options and should clear with Mr. Powers any idea which is not listed. Any and all topic suggestions WILL be seriously considered and a two page, double spaced entry can count as two entries. This must be approved prior to submission.
Essentially, imagination is the only limit to the responses in your eJournals!
Remember – Writing a SUMMARY is NEVER an option.
Submission Requirements:
1. Keep 1 document ALL Year through Google Docs. Please keep updating the same documents and save it as: "English10HJournals"
